About Khammam
Khammam is an important district in the state of Telangana, located in the eastern part of the state. It serves as the administrative headquarters of Khammam district. The district is situated at 17.25°N latitude and 80.15°E longitude, with an average elevation of 122 metres (400 feet) above sea level. Khammam district covers an area of approximately 4,475 sq. kms. As per the 2011 census, the district has a population of around 18.57 Lakh, with a mix of urban and rural settlements. Khammam is known for its rich cultural heritage, historical significance, and natural beauty. The district has witnessed rule by various dynasties including the Kakatiyas and the Asaf Jahi rulers. It is also an important center for agriculture and trade in Telangana. Some notable tourist attractions in Khammam include Khammam Fort, a majestic fort with historical significance; Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary, known for its diverse flora and fauna; Papi Hills, which offer scenic views along the Godavari River; and several ancient temples such as Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple and Padmakshi Temple which attract devotees and tourists alike.
